Will you achieve your goals in the next 363 days?! Last year this time I wasn’t running any 5Ks. In fact, I was told that I shouldn’t run them anymore two years ago. For those of you who don’t know my story, I lost 84 pounds in 2009. I kept the weight off for three years and then life happened. Two car accidents happened. I was also working long hours and eating junk. In April 2013, I had enough. I’m a veteran of these wait wars but I have always resort to quick fixes and fad diets. 2009 was my last diet. They don’t work. You have to adopt a healthier lifestyle that includes eating clean and exercise. Once I accepted that revolutionary idea, committed, and applied the same determination that I do to everything, I achieved success. I reached my goal weight and July/August 2013. I ran two 5K’s in 2013. I plan to do more. I also plan to continue my journey to improve my upper body strength, running speed, and decrease body fat.
So what hindered me from doing this in January last year? I’m too busy I told myself. I can’t make the classes at the gym because of my work schedule. It’s too late to cook food now at 8 o’clock at night. A little fast food never hurt anyone right? “It’s genetic; I’ll never be able to get rid of my ______________________.”, I said. They’re all a load of excuses!! I have a program that I can do anytime I want, even when I’m traveling. I’ve trained myself to think thin and learned to plan my meals ahead of time. As a result, I also inspired people in my family and friendship circles to #endthetrend. Perfect? Not at all. There are days when I don’t stick strictly to my meal planning or when I don’t exercise. However, more than 80% of the time I’m consistent in both those areas and that is what it takes.
